Do you have a Home Care Package?

It is possible to use funding from your Home Care Package to pay for an Angel Assistant, with no out-of-pocket costs.  

Home Care Packages are delivered under the consumer directed care model (CDC).  This means that consumers are to be given choice and flexibility in the types of services they receive and how they are delivered.  The funding within each Home Care Package is flexible, and can be used for any service that is "necessary for you to remain living safely and independently in your home".​  To use your funding for alternative services, the service must:

  • Be directly linked to your identified care needs and goals;

  • Improve your health and wellbeing;

  • Be necessary for you to remain living safely and independently in your home;

  • Be within your Home Care Package budget; and

  • Considered an acceptable use of government funds (not to be used on personal expenses such as rent or food).

Having an Angel Assistant (helpful housemate) fits within these criteria.  The Angel Assistant can provide up to 14 hours of active help each week in return for free food and board.  This could include assistance getting up in the morning, taking medications, picking out clothes, cooking and cleaning, or any other types of daily living tasks you may need help with.  By living with you, they are also able to provide companionship and support at night if needed.  

With a recruitment cost of only $2,999 that can be paid for from your Home Care Package, the rest of your funds can continue being used for additional specialised care.  In many cases, the presence of the Angel Assistant will almost double the amount of help many seniors are able to receive.  This extra support from the Angel Assistant can make staying at home a viable alternative.

It is possible for Angel Assist to arrange an Angel Assistant within just two weeks.  Given the lengthy waits that many seniors experience waiting for Home Care Package approval, many of our clients opt to pay for our services privately so they can get the help they need immediately.
